# selectNoPlayer

*Command · Object Manipulation · Arma 3 v0.50 · introduced in Arma 2 v1.00*

## Description

Switches player to no unit, makes [player](../commands/player.md) return [objNull](../commands/objNull.md).

## Syntax

```sqf
selectNoPlayer
```

**Returns:** [Nothing](../topics/Nothing.md)

## Examples

### Example 1

Single player:

```sqf
selectNoPlayer;
hint str player; // <NULL-object>
```

Rough multiplayer emulation:

```sqf
_noPlayer = createGroup sideLogic createUnit [
    "Logic",
    [0,0,1000],
    [],
    0,
    "NONE"
];
selectPlayer _noPlayer;
hint str player; // L Charlie 4-3:1 (KK)
```

## Multiplayer

Does **not** work in multiplayer.

## Community notes

**Worldeater** — 2010-10-15

[player](../commands/player.md) returns [objNull](../commands/objNull.md) after this command has been used. It also has at least the following side effects: [closeDialog](../commands/closeDialog.md) won't work anymore and onKeyDown event handlers cease to detect the ESC key. In order to get things back to normal a new player object has to be set with [selectPlayer](../commands/selectPlayer.md). Using [objNull](../commands/objNull.md) won't cut it in this case.
